Work in Progress - Blair Park for Burwood Council

'Work in Progress' depicts a series of treasured objects and in-progress paintings that adorn a wooden workbench laid in front of a wall of colourful ceramic tiles.

Commissioned by Burwood Council, the mural was co-designed with art students from Burwood Girls' High School to celebrate Youth Week 2025. The navy-blue undertones of the mural represent the colours of Burwood Girls' High School and Blair Park, and the painted tiles of the mural are inspired by the various tiled murals scattered throughout the school grounds.

During two workshops, we shared previous works, sketchbooks, and stories of one's background growing up in Burwood and the greater LGA. Through mini demonstrations, drawing exercises and the gathering of one's favourite objects/ trinkets, a design was formed! Each object presented in the mural, in some way celebrates the student's current passions, interests/hobbies (boots for soccer and headphones for bush walking), childhood memories (nursing doll and jelly cats), family heirlooms (teacup patterns), one's cultural identity (Chinese beads/ friendship bracelets) and values (the Lily being a symbol of purity and love).
