MetCentre - Smog Eating Murals
To celebrate World Environment Day, Mirvac partnered with VANDAL and Graphenstone Paint to introduce 'Mirvac Bright Futures' - a national campaign focusing on sustainability, revealing several 'Smog Eating Murals' at Mirvac Retail Centres across Australia.
VANDAL commissioned Christina Huynh and eight artists to interpret the theme of Bright Futures in their own unique artistic style. "I chose to paint the Calectasia Cyanea - Blue Tinsel Lily, listed as Critically Endangered under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. The main threats are caused by inappropriate fire regimes, small population size and grazing."
The smog-eating paint works by absorbing CO2 in its drying process. As little as 45 litres of Graphenstone paint will absorb over 14kg of CO2. This is the same amount of CO2 a 250kg tree will absorb in 12 months.
