OF PLACE

Of Place is the second of three murals activated for the Dale Parade Mural project by Canterbury Bankstown Council. It is inspired by the Koi Path by artist collective Popper Box. The Koi Path is a way-finding marker trail which shows brass plated koi fish cemented in walkways all throughout Saigon Place and from Bankstown Arts Centre to the station. ‘Of Place’ was created to reflect that the Koi fish characters have swum from the ground to the walls.

“Goldfish have always been my favourite subjects to paint. Through all my visits to the Bankstown Arts Centre, I had never noticed the golden koi fish trail until a fellow artist pointed it out to me at a site briefing. Funnily enough, I was literally standing on top of one of the plates. I thought it was a wonderful coincidence and made me ponder all the small details that go unnoticed in one’s daily route.”
