‘LOOK!’ at bankstown North Public school

Commissioned by Schools Infrastructure NSW in partnership with RPS Group and Paterson Building Group, ‘Look!’ is an entrance mural situated at Bankstown North Public School.

The scene shows a group of students planning for future revitalisation projects, the background is the Cooks River – after naturalisation. Inspired by notes from a P&C meeting, "where the land meets the water", the river represents fluidity, calm and an appreciation for the community and its surrounding natural landscapes. The flora in the design is of commonly found bottlebrush on the school grounds. This concept is inspired by a photo in a BNPS newsletter of a group of students looking at camels at Sydney Zoo – standing together, intrigued by the animals and in each other's company - a depiction of harmony and purity. The way in which the children look toward the distant landscapes also symbolise hopefulness.
